Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (2023)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - June 30th, 2023 - Movie Reviews

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken was not made for me. At least, not the “me” of today. If I were seven or eight years old, I’m sure this colorfully obnoxious adventure would have thrilled me senseless.

The Little Mermaid (2023)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - May 25th, 2023 - Movie Reviews

For the poor, unfortunate souls hoping this The Little Mermaid will either equal or surpass the animated version, disappointment will be their unhappy bedfellow. But younger audiences will likely enjoy themselves quite a bit, and I can almost guarantee they’re going to fall euphorically in love (and deservedly so) with Bailey’s Ariel.

Fast X is the most absurd entry yet in the long-running franchise, and that’s saying something, considering the crew journeyed into outer space in the previous installment.

Dragonslayer (1981) (4K Ultra HD)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - March 21st, 2023 - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and DVD

Dragonslayer has withstood the test of time beautifully. This is a magnificent fantasy adventure that, once considered a box office disappointment, has over the decades become nothing short of a bona fide cinematic classic.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - March 17th, 2023 - Movie Reviews

Everyone who got a kick out of the low stakes, self-contained storytelling and goofily juvenile antics on display in 2019’s Shazam! will likely be equally satisfied with its sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Avatar: The Way of Water builds to a final hour of action and suspense that blew me through the theater’s back wall.
