Random Acts of Violence (2019)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - August 20th, 2020 - Movie Reviews

Random Acts of Violence was so eager to shock, so consumed with trying to make me gasp out loud, that it completely forgot to give me a reason to care.

La Llorona (2019)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - August 6th, 2020 - Movie Reviews

La Llorona comments on current international events as well as recent Guatemalan history with confident authority, making the film a universally accessible ghost story that will haunt all who watch it for quite some time to come.

Amulet (2020)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - July 24th, 2020 - Movie Reviews

Amulet is a distinctly feminist journey where answers only reveal additional questions, and doing the so-called “right thing” could lead to ghastly unforeseen events born of entitled selfishness that are both heinous and unforgivable all at the same time.

Dream Demon (1988) (Blu-ray)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - June 30th, 2020 - Blu-ray and DVD

While undeniably a product of its time (and limited budget), Dream Demon is still a fascinating gem of a suspense flick, Arrow doing a stupendous job in bringing this title to Blu-ray.

The Soul Collector (2019)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - June 19th, 2020 - Movie Reviews

There are numerous layers to writer/director Harold Holscher’s subdued, elegantly eerie South African horror yarn The Soul Collector, many of them uncomfortably fascinating.

Infamous (2020)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - June 12th, 2020 - Movie Reviews

Infamous a mediocre movie that deserves to fade into oblivion as if it never existed in the first place, the fewer followers it ends up having the more likely that outcome is going to be.

The Vast of Night (2019)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - May 28th, 2020 - Movie Reviews

The Vast of Night is a fast-paced genre excursion into the mysterious unknown. It held me breathlessly spellbound for almost 90 minutes, the haunting nature of the questions it enthusiastically asks as prescient and as essential now as they ever were back during the McCarthyism 1950s time period in which this tale is set.

Proximity (2020)

by Sara Michelle Fetters - May 22nd, 2020 - Movie Reviews

Proximity is a visually striking disappointment, and as far as close encounters go this is one I’m not going to be ruminating on in any sort of detail anytime soon.

“When I read the script, Sarah Bolger is pretty much the only person I could see in the lead role.”
